Splinter Cell 3 Announced
Ubisoft today announced that its Montreal studio is currently developing Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 3 (Working Title), the next installment in the popular stealth-action franchise. Splinter Cell 3 will offer enhanced graphics, immersive and interactive environments, innovative gameplay and a completely unique collaborative multiplayer experience, according to Ubisoft.

The new game will feature a variety of moves including athletic and stealth moves, as well as stealth kills; enhanced graphics technology and gameplay mechanics like rag doll physics, particle effects and perfected interaction with the environment; a more open-ended gameplay experience offering multiple plot paths, side objectives and more; real world and futuristic weapons and gadgets; improved enemy AI that gives NPCs the ability to be more aware of the environment and makes them react more realistically to what they hear and see — and gives them the ability to recall past events; all new multiplayer challenges; and a gripping plot with a deep storyline and a cinematic presentation to back it up.

Splinter Cell 3 will be shown for the first time in a theater-style demo at Ubisoft’s E3 booth (#1046 in the South Hall). The game is scheduled for a PC launch in late 2004. Details on other platforms will be forthcoming. Ubisoft’s description of the game can be found below:
The year is 2008. Information Warfare has evolved into the most dangerous threat to global stability. You are Sam Fisher, Third Echelon’s most skilled Splinter Cell operative. You are assigned to execute a hazardous series of operations to investigate and eliminate a new source of information attacks, originating in North Korea. To succeed, you will employ a host of unconventional counterintelligence activities to gather intel, disrupt enemy operations and neutralize adversary targets.

As Information Warfare evolves, so must the Splinter Cell. You must penetrate deeper into hostile territory and operate undetected, closer to the enemy than ever before. At your disposal is a lethal array of tactics ranging from Combat Knife techniques, experimental prototype weapons skills, and more radical hand-to-hand techniques such as the Inverted Chokehold. Experience the thrill of acting as a lone operative fighting tomorrow’s threats in the field, and of cooperating online with a partner to accomplish crucial missions. Die in action, and the free world dies with you.

May 10, 2004 — This morning, Ubisoft officially announced the third installment of their stealth-action series starring Sam Fisher: Splinter Cell 3.

The game will take place in 2008, an age where electronic warfare has turned into the greatest threat to world security. As secret agent Sam Fisher, you are tasked with tracking down and eliminating some of the world’s most notorious perpetrators of this newest type of warfare, and to eliminate the new threat of global information warfare.
Splinter Cell 3 will feature:

Deadly Agility: Incredibly complete and fluid variety of moves including athletic and stealth moves, as well as stealth kills

Realistic Visuals: Never-before-seen graphics technology offers the best visuals ever to appear on any platform. Advanced physics engine allows rag doll physics, particle effects and perfect interaction with the environment

Real Weapons of Tomorrow: The most complete arsenal of weapons and gadgets, from the combat knife to experimental prototype combat systems

Amazing Replayability: Totally open level design with multipaths and optional secondary objectives

Ultimate Challenge: Intelligent all-new A.I. with personal attributes, natural behavior where non-playable-characters are aware of their environment and remember past events

Co-op Stealth: Play multiplayer with a friend and coordinate your infiltration in an all new multiplayer challenge

Thrilling Scenarios: Gut-wrenching in-game sequences. Gripping plot with multiple twists and turns
Right now it appears that Splinter Cell 3 is only being developed for the PC, and should be released later this year. Expect to hear even more about Splinter Cell 3 after we see it at this year’s E3. Until then, check out the first shots of the game by clicking the link below.

Nvidia and Epic Games plan to show off the Unreal Engine 3 for the first time at this week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Nvidia and Epic Games have today announced that the first public showing of the Unreal Engine 3 will take place at this week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. Created by Epic Games, Unreal Engine 3 is the first game engine to take full advantage of Shader Model 3.0--a key feature of DirectX 9.0 enabled only by the Nvidia GeForce 6 series of GPUs.

«Together, the Nvidia GeForce 6 series and the Unreal Engine 3 are the perfect solution for developers to meet the challenge of the constantly expanding game worlds and complexities of next-generation PCs and consoles,» said Mike Capps, CEO of Epic Games. «The combination of these products will give E3 attendees a glimpse at the future of gaming.»

«Unreal Engine 3 sets the bar for what games will look like over the coming years,» added Bill Rehbock, director of developer relations at Nvidia. «Working with the Unreal Engine is a compelling proposition for any game developer looking to push their games forward with innovative visuals, physics, and gameplay.»

We’ll bring you information on Unreal Engine 3 as soon as it becomes available.

Мой любимый Peter Molyneux » рассказывает о своей новой игре The Movies.

Proclaimed by ourselves, we being the notorious IGN, Pirates! is one of the greatest games of all time, specifically #27. When we learned that Sid Meier and team Firaxis were hard at work bringing Pirates! up to date for the newest millennium, our bearded jaws dropped and our eyes popped out from behind our eye patches.

The new version of Pirates! is everything the original was with a slew of new sections thrown in. For instance, sneaking into town now pits players in a stealth romp through the streets of town, attempting to avoid pesky guards with their flashlights. Conversely, if you’re thrown in jail you can do the same to try and sneak out of town.

Things like ground battles, which were rather clumsy in the original, have been totally revamped and now resemble an RTS of sorts. Swordfights remain true to the spirit of the original game, being based mostly on timing and reflexes rather than pure button-mashing speed, only this time there’s a whole lot more to see and interact with.

The obvious graphical enhancements aside, there’s a whole lot more to this new version of Pirates! than we feel like writing right now.
